ZARA

Heelloo you all.
I'm loaded with books and my exams are torturing me. I have English next so I have some time to chill. I had Social studies last and I was up till 2am! And then woke up at 5! Yep,it's a tough life. But here's a quick post.
Zara India launched it's first store here last year and it has been a madhouse ever since. The place is packed to such an extent that it's difficult to breathe. You're actually fighting for oxygen. The trial rooms waiting line reaches outside the store! And sales people go crazy. The billing queues aren't any shorter either. And walking around, you see everyone carrying Zara shopping bags.Basically it's a craze. And it has all reasons to be.Zara has a great collection most of the time, and I personally never come out empty-handed. And have never witnessed anybody else either. And the stores are huge,so you end up spending most of your time here, skipping lunch. But it's worth it.
Lately,I contacted Zara and will be doing a bit of unofficial blogging for them. I'm super excited! This is my first blogging-for-someone-else-thing you see. And I'm really pumped up.So,I was just going through their 'New this week' collection and found some great stuff.

Printed Angora hat.

Colourbock is the way to gooo.

YELLLOOOOWWW.

Sequinned mini skirt

Wide studio trousers

I would've posted more but exams are evil.

I've always been attracted to wide studio trousers but somehow I've never been able to justify them. Because of my mere height ofcourse. BAH.But they do look great, specially high waisted, with a tucked in plain top.And if you're tall,go right ahead and buy them.Don't think twice. It has been really showing up in magazines and WWD reports. So,it'll be great.
Skirts define me.Literally.I simply love them.I truly believe what is a girl without a mini? Or a midi? Or a long one at that too! Straight,A-lined,Pencil and many more. And absolutely gorgeous.Plus it helps me look taller. And then come in the four inchers I hide from my mother.I told you it's a tough life.
But a sequinned skirt is a must have in your closet. And they look absolutely stunning with a plain tee and light accessories. It looks great all the time. You should definitely stash one in your closet. Wear it on a date.Or a fancy party. You're good great to go.
THESHOESAREJUSTheavenly,RIGHT?. Specially the yellow ones. They are my favourite from the entire collection.I've been trying to find my sizes but I never manage. Yep,being a Size 37 really does suck.Coming back, neon colours are freaking awesome. FTW.They look great on shoes. And even hair accessories. And the other pair, the colourblock ones are simply next to parfait. I have a friend,Arushi who actually has those and she is also a blogger. You can check out her blog here. She's been blogging since a couple of years and is freaking awesome.I'll soon be interviewing her for my blog with some other awesome ones too.SOON. So,you'll have a taste of the Indian Cool-ness.Kay.
Oh and also, you can check out the Zara India website here. But let me warn you,you won't be able to come off it until 4 hours.I didn't.
Kay now bye.Have a great week!

New York Fashion Week: Spring 2012

Everybodyyy,hello.
NY Fashion Week was absolutely great.Models were stunning. And designers nailed it.All of them put up a great show. There were some personal favourites and some not-so-favourtite [?]. I looked them up online because Fashionista.com is a life-saver and I've listed down some pieces I simply adored.
Marc Jacobs was obviously great,he always put a up a show. His clothes were over the Top 20 stuff and he showed us all that he his ready to take over Dior as the next Galliano in a full-fledged manner. The makeup was muted as the models were working as dancers and their hair was tied up in cashmere 'do rags. His clothes were more of long-below the knee-voluminous skirts.Cellophane shimmered and lame and sequins sparkled. It was a collection that proved that this designer is ready to take the reigns at Dior.
Then there was Duru Olowu whose collection was gorgeous.A-lined dress and maxi dresses constituted his collection. They spoke in a floral language, with prints and snake-skin. The commendable part about his collection was that his models looked like they were having the best time of their lives. After a strutting in straight faces,it was a joy.
Derek Lam's collection was a head turner. We saw a lot of lace and his signature leather dresses too had their way.Knee length skirts and bold prints were common and gave a chic look.
Oscar de la Renta was the shiz, seriously. His ball gowns took the cake. With the chocolate sauce. And ice-cream,with M&Ms.Stunning and beautiful.Plenty of lace, tons of vibrant colours, and celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Ashley Olsen. Big show stopping ball gowns and evening wear bookended the collection. In between were some chic nubby knit suits, printed shifts, and day dresses with accentuated waists. But it was the evening wear that stole the show. There was fur and gold lame and sequins and feathers and big poofy sleeves on embroidered floral print dresses (oh my!).
Now for my favourite [drumroll] J.CREWWWWWWW.
J.Crew is my goddess. Her first ever show proved to be a successful one. The models all looked like mini Jenna Lyons-gotta love it,huhh.Things we learned from the presentation: neon is not going anywhere (phew), hot pink and fire engine red should be worn together, mint green and yellow are colors to stock up on, and don’t forget to incorporate your prints–as long as they’re subtle.

We can say that J.Crew knocked it out of the park for their first showing at Lincoln Center during the week.

Sad times.

Okay, this is just plain sad.I did not end up going for Fashion's Night Out!Screw examinations for making my life a hellhole. SIIIGGGHHHH. This is the worst form of grief, for me.I was really looking forward to going but..
To not feel completely alienated,I looked up FNO online and scrolled through some pictures. It looked as if I missed some major fun. My sister did go and she was all, "Oh,it's okay. You didn't miss much." But she was bursting with excitement-I could tell. So,here are some of the pictures someone clicked to make people like me sadder,if that's possible.

How awesome is that, right? Well,I have exams and all so I couldn't really do anything. Next 3 weeks are going to be full of shit and answering papers. So,I won't be posting for a bloody freaking month a while. And I'm hundred percent positive that I'm failing everything.
Like I said,Sad times.

It's showtime.

Hello you alll,
FNOBITCHES.
Fashion's Night Out India is on 10th September and I'm totally psyched. I'll probably be going with a couple of friends or maybe my sister,I have no clue. But I'm simply dying to attend this. It's being held in Emporio Mall, which is the cherry on the cake. Dior,Chanel,YSL,Versace-It's all there. And will be in front of my eyes in 48 hours. You can imagine my face.
Well, bad news is on it's way too.Galliano found guilty. The designer won’t serve jail time and has been given a suspended sentence of 6,000 euro ($8,400) in fines (WWD is reporting the fine is 17,500 euro, the BBCis reporting it’s 10,000 euro…there are obviously some discrepancies here in the early reporting of the verdict). All victims said that they do not believe that Galliano is truly anti-Semitic or racist! Galliano’s lawyer says his client will continue to seek treatment for his addictions to drugs and alcohol.Galliano stood trial on June 22 on charges of “public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity” that took place on two separate occasions last February at a Paris cafe–charges that cost Galliano his job as creative director at Dior. During the trial the designer said that he had no recollection of making any antiSemitic or racist slurs but after watching the infamous “I love Hitler” viral video Galliano apologized “for all the sadness this affair has caused.” He also admitted he was suffering from a “triple addiction.”

So the story of Galliano’s downfall finally comes to end. As he continues to seek treatment, hopefully he can restore his image, get clean, and go back to doing what he does best–making beautiful clothes.

Why eradicate style?

Today, I read an article (dated a year ago) titled ‘Why I hate fashion’ by Tanya Gold. You might have gone through it yourself. The title, for obvious reasons, drew my attention and as I kept reading, my heart sunk lower with each line. The article expressed Tanya’s detestation against fashion, models being photographed and Carrie Bradshaw worshipping shoes. She portrays the fashion industry as peripheral and materialistic which has led astray her hundreds of readers. She says fashion is superficial and so are the people in the industry, she doesn’t seem to pay any heed to the people who perceive fashion as something bigger than art considering they live their life in it. If the same people were up to their eyeballs in books, it wouldn’t be an issue, obviously. Why is fashion considered to be immoral? Just because a girl spends money on a beautiful pair of Blahniks, she is stupid and frivolous? She says high heels kill you; I have friends who walk around all day in 6-inch heels and don’t feel a pinch. And fashion is not about high-heels.
MANOLO BLAHNIKS also shown in Sex and the City.

Like many other things, fashion is a choice you make. Nobody imposes anything on you, so go ahead, hate the magazines, the designers, the photographers but don’t go around saying that all people who indulge in fashion are thoroughly miserable and are on the path of being doomed, in the bitterest way possible. You choose to be a writer, so they choose to be a stylist or a designer or a buyer. Are they not entitled to make their own choices?

Fashion is art, it’s not about glamour. And what is wrong with looking beautiful or graceful or elegant? What is wrong with buying high heels or designer clothes? It is used to express individuality, not to attract men or look appealing. And to say that fashion is highly shallow is a disrespect to the people who make a living from it and feed their families. It isn’t wrong and nor a crime. Never was, never will be.

TAVI GEVINSON

You call yourself smart because you take yourself too seriously to care about what you wear, but simply fail to understand the fact that fashion is an industry, not a suicide convention. How exactly is that smart?
What about Tavi Gevinson who at the age of 11 absorbs style. What about Coco Chanel who broke the stereotypes in the once, male-dominated society? She is the reason European women are not treated like they were before. Watch Coco Avant Chanel and it might register. And other designers who dream about making it to Paris fashion week? Declaring their dreams as materialistic is ample disregard. What about Galliano? He always said that Dior was like his child, but due to unfortunate reasons, he’s out now. That could happen with anybody.
COCO CHANEL.

Another remark she passed which left my blood boiling was that an innocent girl died because of wearing high heels. She tripped and fell but hello, have you never tripped wearing flats? I know I have. Nobody took the snowing and raining part into consideration. Everyone simply jumped onto this stupid ideology of calling high heels evil.
You absolutely cannot call fashion hideous and stupid. Millions of people believe in it. Like Stanley Tucci said, “Don’t you know that you are working at the place that published some of the greatest artists of the century- Holston, Lagerfeld, De La Renta. And what they did, what they created was greater than art, because you live you life in it. I mean, not you, obviously but some people. You think this is just a magazine..hmm..this is not just a magazine. It is a shining beacon of hope for oh, I don’t know. Let’s say young buy growing up in Rowen Island with six brothers pretending to go to soccer practice when he was really going to sewing classes and reading Runway under the covers at night with a flash light. You have no idea how many legends have been with this. And what’s worse, you don’t care."
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTINS. Yep,they're gorgeous.

I cannot afford a Chanel bag nor Christian Louboutins, hundred others can’t but nobody can stop me or them from admiring the work of Marc Jacobs or Alber Elbaz. Tanya says that all the people resting in the fashion industry are miserable and wholly sad. But I am happy. I want to work in this industry someday and nobody can become a barrier. And, is she trying to say that everybody else on this planet of 7 billion people working in different industries is happy. Really? Considering how bitter she sounds, I don’t think she’s happy herself. She might have had an unfortunate history with fashion but does that mean everyone is going to end up like her? My very own sister is doing journalism and wishes to work at CNN but she still remains my inspiration. She yearns for the Birkin bag herself and I yearn to buy one for her someday. Do I still sound shallow and frivolous?

And what’s worse is that Tanya and other people who think alike are hideously narrow-minded and are just victims in such cases, not witnesses. They don’t understand fashion doesn’t mean it should be non-existent. They contaminate this society with their prejudiced and conservative ideas which are not getting us anywhere.
I’m going to conclude now and as I do, I quote, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.
-Coco Chanel.
